Metallurgical Examination of Experimental Cast Armor Turrent Number 2 Manufactured by the General Steel Castings Corporation

Abstract

The purpose of this investigation was to determine the metallurgical characteristics of the armor in the turret which exhibited good ballistic properties. This investigation indicates that if x-ray inspection is adopted for acceptance or rejection of heavy armor castings, liberal inspection standards will be required to prevent the rejection of castings which would be satisfactory for the service intended.
