Environmental Summary of the Maynard Quartermaster Test Activity: A Preliminary Report.

Abstract

In December 1957 the Headquarters Quartermaster Research and Engineering Command assumed custody of a military reservation comprising 4.3 square miles near Maynard, Massachusetts. This reservation was formerly the Maynard Ordnance Test Station. Subsequently, all activities of the Mount Washington Test Detachment of the Quartermaster Research and Engineering Field Evaluation Agency were transferred to the Maynard site. The site is available not only for field testing but also for research by elements of the Quartermaster Research and Engineering Center Laboratories at Natick. To facilitate planning of such testing and research, this preliminary report has been prepared, summarizing presently available information concerning the environment of the site, i.e. terrain, vegetation, and climate.
