The Development of Equipment and Methods for Studying the Dynamics of the Performance of Light Armor Consisting of Fibrous or a Combination of Fibrous and Metallic Materials.
Abstract
The relation between striking and residual velocities of penetrating fragments as reported in Quarterly Report No. 3 has been extended to include measurements on 75ST Aluminum Alloy, Hadfield and Hot-rolled Steel. Experiments dealing with the extent of permanent deformation in the metallic plate, influence of contact surface contour, influence of fragment mass, the effect of multiple plates, and the effect of nylon fabric covering have been carried out. The results of these experiments are discussed and reported in graphical form. The general conclusions of the work to date are summarized in this report.
