The Development of Equipment and Methods for Studying the Dynamics of the Performance of Light Armor Consisting of Fibrous or a Combination of Fibrous and Metallic Materials.

Abstract

This report summarizes the work completed at the Midwest Research Institute during the period from February 5 to May 5 on the reference contract for the development of equipment and methods for evaluating the performance of light personnel armor components and assemblies consisting of metal and fibrous elements and combinations of this. The report is an extension of the work reported in Quarterly Report No 4. It describes a process whereby the residual velocity of a penetrating fragment may be determined. The determination of the residual velocity is based on a measurement of static deformation energies and the extent of plate deformation.
