Metallurgical Examination of 2 Inch, 2-1/2 Inch Rolled Homogeneous Armor Shock Tested with 105mm. Tg Proof Projectiles

Abstract

A metallurgical examination has been completed on two 21/2 in. thick rolled homogeneous and four 2 in. thick cast armor plates which had been tested with 105mm T8 proof projectiles. In general, good correlations were established between ballistic shock properties and metallurgical properties, namely the fracture test and V-notch Charpy impact energy values.
