Rehabilitation Units for Steel Landing Mats.

Abstract

As a result of a request made by the Alaskan Command through the U. S. District Engineer Office at Seattle, Washington, the Engineer Board was directed to develop equipment to rehabilitate damage or deformed steel pierced-plank landing mats. Development of a press-type straightener had been started, when plans were received for a roller-type straightener which had been developed by the Army Air Forces in the South Pacific Theater. Pilot models of each type were secured. While these were being tested, quantity procurement was initiated on the roll-type straightener.
