Abstract
Five areas of platelet research related to platelet production and megathrombocyte (young platelet) identification include: Use of an Albumin Density Gradient to identify a Young Platelet Population; Use of the Megathrombocyte to Monitor a Thrombopoietic Stimulus; Splenic Sequestration of Megathrombocytes; Requirement of Iron for Thrombopoiesis, Megathrombopoiesis and Platelet Protein Synthesis; and Identification of a Splenic-Humoral Platelet-Release Factor in Plasma from Animals Subjected to Chronic Blood Loss.
