Research and Development of Fundamental Performance Information Relevant to the Behavioral Effects of Low-Level Microwave Exposure.

Abstract

This report describes a research effort designed to provide basic information in the behavioral effects of low-level microwave radiation. A laboratory facility was established appropriate for the analysis of some basic performances of primates during extended exposure to a controlled microwave field. Exposures as long as 16 hrs/day for 30 days (10 mw/cm2) failed to reliably modify primates' capacities to complete extended work requirements or to discriminate extended intervals of time. Studies designed to ascertain the possible sensory discrimination of the radiation field by primates between power levels 10 mw/cw2 and 30 mw/cw2 showed a reliable behavioral change under the upper power range where associated thermal stimuli were clearly evident.
