Infrared Search and Track Evaluation Model (IRSTEM).

Abstract

This report submitted under contract N00173-77-C-0236 is the first report submitted since the delivery and documentation of the IRSTEM code. Now that the initial code has been completed, work emphasis has shifted to exercising the program through a series of test cases to verify the models used in IRSTEM and to demonstrate its utility for system/performance predictions. As a result of these efforts, several potential improvements/modifications have been identified in addition to coding and methodology corrections. An analysis of the expected signal to back-ground noise is presented for typical advanced anti-ship missiles using sensor passbands under current evaluation by the Navy. This analysis is presented as an example of the utility of the IRSTEM code even when the detailed sensor modelling options are not utilized.
