Beach Studies in the Cape Cod Area.

Abstract

A summary of work in progress is herein presented: 1. Beach profiles measured daily 2. Intensive work on sediment statistics (Now programmed for high speed electronic computers) (AVIDAC) 3. Daily measurements of sea state Field observations in the past six months present much detail concerning beach regimen. Of particular interest is scarp formation. A scarp five feet high formed in a day and a half during a time when nothing unusual about sea state seemed to be taking place. This event has directed our attention to critical beach slopes as a possible explanation. True, the beach slope depends on sea state for its configuration, but do beaches above certain slopes dictate net effect of sea state?
