ASTRAL Model. Volume 2: Software Implementation

Abstract

This volume documents the computer code of the ASTRAL model whose physics and supporting mathematics are described in Volume I. The purpose of this volume is to provide a bridge between the physics/mathematics of the model and the computer listing of the code. Section 2 describes the overall program flow and the functions of each of the routines. Section 3 describes the program input and output with examples. This model was designed to be both a stand-alone model with its own driver controlling input and output as well as a callable subroutine whose input and output are handled entirely through common blocks. To avoid recomputing certain water-mass and near-field bathymetry information, some parameters, once computed, are saved for subsequent tracks in common blocks which must be made available in subsequent calls by users of the subroutine capability. Details of this dual approach are also contained in Section 3.
