A Survey Level Report of the Ditch 24 Channel Enlargement, Stoddard County, Missouri

Abstract

The study included a review of published literature, a review of county, state, and federal archive sources, a cartographic review, interviews with local informants, intensive field examinations, and archaeological analysis of artifact collections. A total of six sites was identified during the survey. Prehistoric properties were identified with occupational components from Archaic, Woodland, and Mississippian Periods, while the historic and architectural resources were all associated with 20th century agricultural and occupation activity. Two prehistoric sites are considered eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places and both will be adversely affected by construction of the drainage project
