Abstract

The United States Air Force has applied for renewal of the 2,945,726 acre Nellis Air Force Range withdrawal, in Nevada, for a period of 15 years with an option to renew for an additional 10 years. Nellis AFR consists of two units - the North Range (1,959,158 acres) and the South Range(986,568 acres). The South Range includes 826,000 acres of the Desert National Wildlife Range (DNWR), managed by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Associated with the proposed withdrawal, the Air Force plans to increase the electronic warfare threat capability in order to meet the training requirements. Fifty-three additional electronic warfare sites would be added on the North Range.
