Survey for Archeological and Historic Resources in Areas of Proposed Dike and Revetment Construction Along the Mississippi River in the States of Tennessee and Mississippi.

Abstract

The objectives of the study were to assess the nature , extent, and significance of the archaeological and historical- resources and to determine the probable impact of proposed construction on these cultural resources. During the literature search, efforts were centered on collecting data on prehistoric and historic river settlements. Because the areas of proposed construction are located along the Mississippi River such an approach was necessary in order to assess the nature and significance of any site located during the survey.
