OPERATION HARDTACK. Report to the Scientific Director. Power-Time and Total-Thermal Measurements

Abstract

The objective of the experiments reported in this volume was to determine the very high altitude behavior of two nuclear explosions, namely, the thermal power versus time and the total thermal yield. The power-time measurements were performed wth four bolometers chopper units. A large dynamic range was provided both electronically and by neutral filters. The total thermal yield of the Teak Shot was measured by thermopile recorder systems. The total thermal yield for Orange Shot could not be determined because of the cloud cover present over Johnston Island. Keywords: Thermal measurement; Power time instrumentation.
