Parametric Study of Deployable Rigid Wing (DRW) Applicability. Volume I.

Abstract

A parametric analysis of Deployable Rigid Wing (DRW) design is presented. The relative effects of folding concepts, numbers of telescoping sections, wing loading and aspect ratio on weight, stowed geometry, aerodynamic characteristics and costs are evaluated. Also included are sensitivities to wing area, taper ratio, sweep angle, and thickness ratio. Design charts are provided to assist in selecting DRW geometry for a specific application. Development of the charts is discussed and supporting data given. (Author)
