Formulation of Hazard Evaluation Indices for Pyrotechnic Processes

Abstract

Three experimental test devices designed to provide new hazard evaluation indices for pyrotechnic processes were fabricated: (1) An Impingement reaction device to determine the initiation threshold impingement particle velocity; (2) A pendulum-type friction sensitivity device to determine the frictional energy required for initiation; and (3) A modified Parr bomb for the determination of material energy release under nominal atmospheric conditions.
