Category 5 Suppressive Shield (TDP)

Abstract

A prototype suppressive shield of modular, prefabricated construction suitable for application in illuminant, propellant, and pyrotechnic production lines was proof tested. The 1000 cubic foot structure was demonstrated to be capable of complete fragment retention from simulated explosive slurry mixing equipment. Blast pressure reductions of 75 to 85 percent were measured external to the enclosure for charge weights from 0.57 to 2.4 lbs. Temperature gradients and heat flux generated by charges of 10 to 50 lbs. of illuminant material were similarly reduced.
