Development of Encapsulated White Phosphorus

Abstract

This investigation was designed to develop a white phosphorus/polymer system that would remain solid over the accepted military operating temperatures - thus avoiding the liquid phase a temperatures above 115 degrees Fahrenheit which cause ballistic instability in artillery rounds. Final dynamic ballistic tests on rounds ranging from 40mm to 105mm demonstrated that the WP/epoxy system met all military temperature and ballistic requirements.
