Magnus and Roll-Damping Characteristics of the Fixed-Fin and Inflatable Stabilizer Retarder Configurations of the MK-82 Store at Transonic Speeds

Abstract

Wind tunnel tests to Measure the Magnus and roll-damping characteristics of a bomb shape, which is a candidate for replacement of the MK-82 Snakeye Bomb, were conducted at Mach numbers from 0.4 to 1.3 and Reynolds numbers, based on model diameter from 540,000 to 1,000,000. Two basic fin configurations, the fixed fin (FF) and the inflatable stabilizer retarder with extender (ISRE), were tested with and without wedge-shaped tabs and slots.
