Quasi-Static Compression Stress-Strain Curves. 2. Results for 7039 Aluminum

Abstract

This report presents the results of part two of a continuing series of quasi-static compression tests of materials suitable for kinetic energy armor penetrators or armor. The material tested in 7039 aluminum armor. Test specimens were grouped into four categories; one from aluminum rods purchased especially for the Core Materials Program, and three from aluminum armor plates, each group cut with its major axis along a different orientation with respect to the rolling direction of the plate. Yield strength, Poisson's ratio, Young's modulus, and hardness are reported for each group.
