CSEL Bit Error Rate Counters

Abstract

This report describes the addition and integration of two Bit Error Rate Counter (BERC) units into the K-Band Terminal Simulator portion of the AFAL Communication Systems Evaluation Laboratory (CSEL). These two units will provide the capability to measure bit error rate on two classes of signals. The first is represented by single channel, low speed (75 to 9600 bits/second), asynchronous or synchronous data. The second are high speed (10 to megabits/second) synchronous data, usually generated by time domain multiplexing equipment for wideband communications systems. The original software for the CSEL has been modified to allow operator interaction with the BERCs. This interaction is achieved in a manner consistent with all the other elements of CSEL.
