The Effect of Wind on Flat-Fire Trajectories

Abstract

The generalized effects of crosswinds and range winds on flat-fire trajectories are derived from the basic equations of motion for a projectile acted on by aerodynamic drag and gravity. The effects of space-varying winds along the trajectory are examined, and simple approximate wind corrections for field use are compared with classical results and nearly-exact numerical solutions.
