Advanced Turbine Engine Seal Test

Abstract

The ATEST (Advanced Turbine Engine Seal Test) Program focused on the design, manufacture, and test of an advanced turbine shroud and support structure for the GE14/J1B3 demonstrator engine. Two distinct shroud segment designs were tested side by side in the engine: a transpiration-cooled shroud utilizing Poroloy as the transpiring media and a film-impingement-cooled design. Heat transfer data utilized in the establishment of the engine hardware were generated under Contract F33615-72-C-1775. Both high temperature performance and cyclic endurance testing were performed. Transient and steady-state temperature and pressure data were measured and compared to predicted values.
