FLIR High Frequency Stabilization Study Program
Abstract
A Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) High Frequency Stabilization Study was conducted to investigate cost-effective techniques for achieving internal optical line-of-sight stabilization in an AN/AAQ9 XA1 or XA2 type FLIR. A stabilization technique which command-stabilizes a gimbaled folding mirror in the FLIR IR optical system was selected. Tests verified the stabilization performance of the laboratory demonstration breadboard model. Vibration attenuations of over 27 dB were achieved in the spectrum between 20 and 100 Hz. System noise levels were sufficiently low to achieve the desired 7-microradian line-of-sight stabilization level.
