Improved 20mm Plastic Rotating Bands

Abstract

This project included the study of processing parameters, material variations, and geometry factors for producing highly reliable nylon 12 plastic rotating bands bonded to M56A4 20mm projectiles. Included were the development of material and process specifications. Production tooling and equipment were developed, and a large volume of plastic banded projectiles was fabricated under simulated high volume conditions. The efficacy of each developed parameter was verified by gun fire testing.
