Fuze Baffle Delay Concept Evaluation

Abstract

The technical feasibility of a baffle delay system for an M505A3 type fuze has been studied. Baffle delay design concepts were screened by means of quasi-dynamic impact simulating experiments. Simplified designs were prepared for 20 mm gun fired tests. Both the quasi-dynamic tests and the gun-fired tests indicate the technical feasibility of the baffle delay fuze concept for 20 to 30 mm ammunition.
