Development of a Lightweight 25mm Explosive Projectile

Abstract

Design and analysis of an improved 25mm high explosive incendiary (HEI) projectile is discussed. Improved performance is accomplished by configuration changes which reduce projectile weight, improve aerodynamic performance, and increase the high explosive material. The improvements are achieved by thinning the projectile walls, by the choice of material, heat treat, and incorporation of a plastic rotating band. The design and analytical work performed in developing this improved projectile are reviewed.
