US Military Hand Guns. Examination of Literature for the Last Twenty Years

Abstract

This paper attempts to consolidate and categorize the extensive literature available that relates to US Army military hand guns, and to provide analysis of that information for future studies and decisions. The literature search reveals that the usefulness of sources listed in priority is as follows: Defense Documentation Center, Air University Index, gun enthusiast magazines, and Readers' Guide to Periodical Literature. Recommendations include questions for future efforts in the following areas: commercial hand guns, M1911A1 modifications, training, hand gun design, bullet design, manufacturing, multi- projectiles, machine pistols, costs, and microballistics.
