Inventory Smoke Munition Test. (Phase IIa). Volume I

Abstract

The development and testing of more effective smoke screening systems requires the establishment of a reference data base and thus the characterization of existing smoke inventories. The smoke systems include items containing HC (Hexachloroethane, zinc oxide, aluminum mixture), WP (white phosphorus), and PWP (plasticized white phosphorus). This test program consisted of four trials for each of eight types of smoke munitions for a total of 32 trials. The smoke clouds generated by burning of HC, WP and PWP were characterized in a field environment using existing smoke methodology procedures. The smoke systems to be characterized included the following munitions: 105mm HC M84A1, 105mm WP M60A2, 4.2 Inch WP M328A1, 4.2 Inch PWP m328A1, 81mm WP m375A2, 155mm WP M110E2, 155mm HC M116B1, and M5 HC Smoke Pot.
