Systematic Approach to Project Planning and Tracking of Engineering Projects Implemented in the Life Support Engineering Division.

Abstract

One of the critical problems confronting management is the lack of a meaningful set of procedures to assist the monitoring of technical and financial aspects of projects. A systematic approach to project planning and tracking of engineering projects that provides the necessary, meaningful project data along with the proper tools to support project leaders in accomplishing their objectives has been developed and implemented by the Life Support Engineering Division (LSED). Because of the numerous projects with varying degrees of complexities within Life Support Engineering Division, the accomplishment of successful planning and tracking requires the implementation of a standardized set of procedures. These include a systematic procedure for planning, an automated data base management information system that structures the data, and a procedure to produce timely reports for management. The correlation of these reports is performed manually in order to include the human element in the analysis of financial data. The present systematic approach to project planning and tracking of engineering projects now operational in the Life Support Engineering Division is described in the following sections. (Author)
