A Manual for General Least Squares Model Fitting.

Abstract

This manual outlines the theory of general least squares model fitting and describes the operation of four computer programs for model fitting by a least squares method. The distinct features of the programs are that they are applicable to problems where the constraints (models) are nonlinear equalities, that they take into consideration the accuracy of data and correlations between them, and that they compute variance estimates using complete formulas. The four programs are: COLSAC - for nonlinear curve fitting; COLSMU - for problems with constraints in form of simultaneous nonlinear equations; COLSAV - for computation of vector averages from correlated data; TALSAC - for problems involving nonlinear transformations of variables.
