Techniques for Detecting Carbon Fiber Contamination on Surfaces

Abstract

Several methods are described for detecting and locating carbon fibers on relatively flat surfaces. Ultraviolet and visible light techniques are used to visually examine wetted surfaces. Variations in the surface curvature or thickness of the wetting film allow improved detection. Specular reflection and contrast may also be used for the detection and location of carbon fibers.
