Development of PBBI Laminating Resin.

Abstract

PBBI resin formulary studies were performed in order to increase resin toughness and to decrease resin shrinkage while maintaining improved moisture resistance over state of the art, 177 C (350 F) service epoxy resins. The most promising approach was identified to be controlling the chain extension of the polybutadiene prepolymers to relatively high molecular weight. Prepreg tape was prepared from a PBBI resin using conventional hot-melt coating production equipment. Composite panels were molded from the PBBI/Celion 6000 prepreg by both vacuum bag and autoclave molding processes. (Author)
