Tests of an Aft-Ejection Gun-Probe System at Tonopah Test Range, Nevada

Abstract

The results of initial vertical firing tests of a 5-inch aft-ejection projectile at Sandia's Tonopah Test Range in October, 1977, are presented. Predicted altitudes were attained when projectiles were intact. The radars experienced tracking problems, with these high velocity projectiles, and fuze performance was erratic. The radars tracking problems were resolved during a second series in March 1978. Fuze and projectile problems were not resolved.
