Chemical Composition and Processing Specifications for Air Force Advanced Composite Matrix Materials.

Abstract

This program was initiated to establish qualitative and quantitative chemical compositional requirements for Narmco's 5208 modified epoxy matrix system, and to incorporate them into existing graphite/epoxy procurement specifications. An extensive chemical, physical and mechanical property test plan was established to validate the acceptability of the chemical purity and concentration requirements currently imposed by Narmco on the 5208 system. A similar interrogation was also initiated during the program which assessed large variations in chemical constituent concentration. In the final portion of this program, an investigation was conducted to assess the effects of ambient exposure on material chemical, rheological, and mechanical property characteristics. (Author)
