An Assessment of Speech Intelligibility Performance of the Marconi 'Growler' Vocoder.

Abstract

The Marconi 'Growler' narrowband vocoder was tested for speech intelligibility performance under conditions of bit errors (random, and JTIDS frame errors), noisy acoustic environments, and 'ideal' conditions (quiet environment, zero bit errors, high fidelity microphone). Intelligibility performance was found to be comparable to that of other current state-of-the-art narrowband voice processors that have been tested. (Author)
