Feasibility of Ceramic Lined Gun Tube

Abstract

A feasibility study was initiated to evaluate use of a ceramic liner to prevent rapid wear and erosion of the tube bore. An alpha silicon carbide liner was fabricated, inserted into a barrel, and test fired successfully. The liner performance provides support for further investigation and testing.
