Abstract

This technical report presents the final results of GTCC and discusses the rationale for the direction of the program. The impact of GTCC on other areas of Computer Aided Manufacturing and accomplishments during this project are also discussed. This final technical report is organized into six (6) volumes. This volume is Volume V - Group Technology Application (User 2 Manual) Group Technology is the grouping of items with similar characteristics to take advantage of their similarities. The first step in implementing group technology is developing a classification and coding scheme. The items are classified according to similar characteristics and a meaningful code, which would reflect these characteristics, is assigned. After items are classified and their codes are stored in a data base, items with similar attributes can be retrieved.
