ICAM (Integrated Computer-Aided Manufacturing) Integrated Planning System (IPS). Volume 3. Product Specification Record and Provide Production Information.

Abstract

The primary objective of the IPS Production Planning and Control System Record and Provide Production Information function is to support the PP&CS Factory Loading function by providing a number of transactions enabling the user to define the target manufacturing environment and establish various loading parameters required for proper execution of PP&CS loading and balancing functions factory loading software supported by 'record and provide' transactions is an integral part of the contemporary concept of closed-loop manufacturing control. In brief, closed-loop manufacturing control begins with 'higher-level' master scheduling and material requirements planning systems responsible for calculating gross requirements purchased and produced material. Gross requirements are then 'netted' against quantities of material on hand resulting in a determination of net requirements. Shop orders and purchase orders for the net requirements are scheduled in a 'time-phased' manner, i.e. by offsetting for manufacturing lead time and purchasing lead time, to insure delivery prior to the date of need.
