ICAM (Integrated Computer-Aided Manufacturing) Integrated Planning System (IPS). Volume 7. Product Specification - Data Base

Abstract

This product specification documents the as-built detailed design of computer database software for the IPS prototype Production Planning and Control System. This report documents the logical characteristics of an integrated data base implemented in support of the Production Planning And Control System (PP&CS). This data base is to be implemented on a VAX 11/780 computer system making use of the VAX-11 DBMS CODASYL - compliant data base management system. The primary and most appropriate vehicle for describing logical data base characteristics is the data base schema for PP&CS. A schema diagram is included in this specification as Appendix A. A schema listing is included as Appendix B. The PP&CS schema is the basis for defining user views of the data, i.e., subschemas, which are incorporated within application programs for accessing PP&CS data. The eight subschemas developed for this project are included as Appendices D thru J. The second purpose of this document is to include a physical description of the PP&CS data base. Physical characteristics include sizes of data base areas, records within areas, and physical placement of records within the data base. Keywords: Data Storage Definition Language (DSDL) Record Type, and Data Base Management System (DBMS).
