Explosive Loading of Metals and Related Topics

Abstract

This document is intended to be a tutorial report covering the basic aspects of the explosive loading of metals. Chapters are given which describe the shaped-charged concept, the history of shaped-charges and several applications of shaped-charge devices. The generalized equations, such as those solved by the hydrocodes, as well as the Bernoulli Equation concepts are presented. The Gurney velocity approximation for explosively driven plates is presented. Also the models used for the collapse and jet formation of a shaped- charge with a conical liners are described. Finally, the concept of explosive welding, shaping and forming is discussed. Keywords: Explosive-metal interactions; Visco-plastic jets; Flying plates; Shaped-charge jet formation; Shaped-charge jet collapse.
