Easily Applied Long Lasting Dressing Based on Poroplastic (Trade Name) Materials. Phase IIB. Dual-Drug Dressing Incorporating Clindamycin with Gentamicin.

Abstract

Gentamicin-loaded Poroplastic membrane wound dressing of defined composition have been furnished to USAIDR, for in vivo evaluation. They have been shown to be effective for control of wound infections in vivo and their sustained release properties were found to contribute significantly to their in vivo effectiveness. Poroplastic preparations loaded with gentamicin and clindamycin have been developed, and their drug delivery properties studied in vitro. Certain of these preparations have been demonstrated to possess sustained release properties for both drugs. The release rates have been manipulated by varying various membrane and loading parameters. Thus, simultaneous controlled release for both drugs has been demonstrated in vitro. Conformability studies have been instituted. Keywords: Antibiotics.
