Synthesis of Improved Antileishmanial and Antitrypanosomal Drugs Treatment and Prophylaxis.

Abstract

The program is directed at the preparation of improved antileishmanial and antitrypanosomal drugs. During the past year nine target compounds were submitted for testing against L. donovani, T. rhodesiense and T. cruzi. Four candidate antileishmanials are modified 8-aminoquinolines and one is a pyridyl bis(hydrazide). A bis(amidoxime)pyridylethylene, and bis(amidoxime)-bis(amidine) pair (modified commerical drug, diminazene) (berenil) are candidate trypanocides together with a 1-amidoximinomethyl-2,2-diarylethylene directed at T. cruzi.
