Development of a Calcifiable Matrix for Bone Formation.

Abstract

The Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics delivered to the USAIDR. Approximately 10 grams of material; they were 5 grams of polypentapeptide (Val-Pro-Gly-Val-Gly)n (PPP) in dry form, 2 grams of PPP as the coacervate, 0.9 grams of calcified irradiated crosslinked PPP and 1 gram of the polyhexapeptide (Val-Gly-Pro-Gly-Val-Gly)n. The calcification potential of the pentamer high polymer matrices and the chemotactic potential of the C-terminal pentapeptide fragment of osteocalcin were evaluated. The results described in this annual report were obtained during the period May 1, 1984 through September 30, 1985. The objective of this period was the development of a calcifiable matrix for bone formation. After the site visit by the USAIDR in September 1985, additional experiments concerned with biomaterial development for wound repair were outlined. These results are outlined in the final report. Keywords: Osteogenesis; Bone formation.
