Synthesis of Improved Antileishmanial and Antitrypanosomal Drugs, Treatment and Prophylaxis

Abstract

The program is directed at the preparation of improved antileishmanial and antitrypanosomal drugs. During the past year 14 target compounds were submitted for testing against L. donovani, T. rhodesiense and T. cruzi. Two candidate antileishmanials are modified 8-aminoquinolines. Twelve compounds were directed primarily against T. cruzi., all modified Wellcome Research Laboratories structures. These included: four 2,2-diaryldimethyl (or dihydro)aminomethylethylenes, one 2,2'diarylaminomethyl-2-hydroxyethane, two 2, 2'diarylamidoximinoethylenes, four 1,2,2-triaryldimethyl (or dihydro) aminomethylethylenes and one 1,1,2-triarylaminomethyl-2-hydroxyethane. Keywords: Methylenes; Ethylenes; Ethanes.
