Drug Development Against Parasitic Diseases: Synthesis of the Antimalarial Agent Qinghaosu and Analogs.

Abstract

New chemical methodology was proposed to carry out a stereoselective synthesis of the antimalarial agent Qinghaosu. Feasibility studies with model systems have demonstrated that the proposed methodology works. We have therefore undertaken and recently completed the stereoselective total synthesis of Qinghaosu beginning with commercially available R(+)-pulegone. This methodology has been extended to include the total synthesis of analogs of Qinghaosu. Keywords: Total synthesis of antimalarial drug, Qinghaosu, Total synthesis of analogs of Qinghaosu RA1; Antiparasitic. (KT)
