Chemotherapy of Rodent Malaria.

Abstract

Data from in vivo blood schizontocidal activity tests rodent malaria with WR 149244, WR 256473, WR 93133, WR 242511, WR 238605 and Loratadine are presented. The final results from the continuing study on cross-resistance and first data from a series of experiments examining the influence of a range of WRAIR compounds, as well as some antihistaminic drugs, in combination with chloroquine, mefloquine, halofantrine or artemisinin on resistance to these primary antimalarials in appropriate strains of Plasmodium yoelii are also included. Studies on gametocytocidal activity of four metabolites of primaquine and four Cinchona alkaloids are described. Two floxacrine analogs (WR 243251 and WR 250547), and two 8-aminoquinolines (WR 199508 and WR 238605), a tetrahydrofuran (WR 93133), and two antibiotics (spiramycin and lincomycin) are examined for causal prophylactic activity against P.y.nigeriensis.
