The GRIDGEN 3D Multiple Block Grid Generation System. Volume 2. User's Manual.

Abstract

The GRIDGEN Codes were developed in order to provide efficient, user friendly and robust grid generation tools that would allow for routine applications of multiple block, computational fluid dynamics flow solvers to complex aircraft configurations. Traditionally, development of a suitable multiple block structure and management of data transfer across complex block interfaces had proven to be difficult tasks due to the lack of three-dimensional visualization and bookkeeping techniques. The GRIDBLOCK code simplifies these tasks by providing a user-friendly, interactive graphics environment in which the user may create and modify multiple block structures and block connectivity data. Surface grid generation procedures had suffered from a lack of graphical feedback and user interaction in addition to a lack of generalized block interface management routines. GRIDGEN2D is an interactive graphics code that has been developed to improve the efficiency with which multiple block surface grids are generated. Similarly, generation of multiple block volume grid also lacked general routines for the treatment of block interfaces and user-friendly visualization software. GRIDGEN3D and its companion graphics code GRIDVUE3D have been developed to enhance the process of generating multiple block volume grids.
