Fate of Chemical Agents on Structural Surfaces (Task 2)

Abstract

The U.S. Army Toxic and Hazardous Materials Agency (USATHAMA) is charged with the responsibility for development and demonstration of technology for identification, containment and elimination of toxic and hazardous materials and related contamination. In support of this mission, Battelle Columbus Division (BCD) has conducted several bench-scale and field demonstration programs to identify and develop promising new concepts for decontamination and reclamation of contaminated structures. The focus of the current program has been on development of a better understanding of the hot gas desorption process (HDP). The objectives of this task were to further define the fate of chemical agents adsorbed on concrete, and to develop a model describing physical and chemical aspects of the HDP so as to enable easy exploration of the effects of process variables on the effectiveness of the HDP.
